The town of Cashel (meaning castle or fortress) in County Tipperary is home to one of Ireland's great historical sites - the Rock of Cashel.

Fishing on the river Suir

The Suir is one of the main fishing rivers in Ireland, The Suir and The Aherlow. Both rivers, particularly the Suir also have good Salmon fishing. Our local Fishing Guide Mr. Willie McGrath can be contacted for further details on 062 62016.

Mr. McGrath will bring the guest to the best stretches of the river and ensure a successful day to all our clients. He will also provide tackle & equipment if necessary, and any relevant permits at an additional cost.

The Bishops Walk, Our private walkway in the gardens of the Hotel leads to the world famous Rock of Cashel, the oldest ecclesiastical site in Europe.

Dundrum, The Bishops Wood Walk. a 20 Minute drive from Hillhouse
Allow 2 hours for this walk in the forest of Dundrum.

Glengarra Woods, a 30 minute drive from The Cashel Palace Hotel. This beautiful area has extensive walks specially constructed through the woodlands

Dominican Friary

Also in Cashel and well worth a visit is close to the base of the Rock, the Dominican Friary founded in 1243 and within a mile of the friary are the ruins of Hoare Abbey, a Cistercian daughter-house of Mellifont in County Louth and the last Cistercian house to be founded in medieval Ireland. The Bolton Library which houses an impressive collection of antiquarian and rare books and manuscripts including a monk's encyclopaedia from 1168 and pages of Chaucer's Book of Fame is also a must.
